Wedding Bells!

PopPop and I finally tied the knot! We were married April 2nd in Las Vegas which just happened to be my birthday. My son and his wife joined us in Las Vegas for the ceremony. It was the best birthday ever. Here’s a few pictures of the happy couple.

It was a special day and week. My son and his wife stayed for the weekend then headed back home to the kids. We stayed in Vegas for a week so we got to do some sightseeing outside the city. We went to Hoover Dam, Red Rock, and the Grand Canyon. We also got to see some some great shows. We saw Love, The Jersey Boys, and Jubilee. We had tickets to see Donnie & Marie but they cancelled their show that night. Bummer!

Now we’re back to real life and our busy schedules. It was great to be away for a week.

Diva Las Vegas and The Gutter Girls

Everyone knows that PopPop is the love of my life. What you may not know is that we are not married. That’s about to change. He popped the question at Christmas and we are set to get married in early April in Las Vegas.

When our neighbors found out that we were going to get married everyone was excited. Our neighbor KarenG thinks “Oh boy! Bridal shower!” One of our other neighbors KarenVH goes “WoooHoooo! Bachelorette Party!!”. The bachelorette party won out.

But… What you must realize is that a bachelorette party for a group of middle-aged women is way different than a bachelorette party for a group of twenty-somethings. No male strippers. No bar hopping. The organizers decided on a bowling theme complete with matching bowling shirts. Mine was different from the rest because I’m the bride. Aren’t they cute!

The girls had to bling me all up. I’m kinda silly looking.

Even though it wasn’t the typical bachelorette party it did have some elements from one. We did drink our fair share of adult beverages. We did get a bit wild with the guys bowling on the next lane. We stayed out late(for us anyway). All in all we had a great time!

I’m Baaaaaaack!

I’ve been neglecting my little blog lately. There’s no particular reason. Life’s just been a little busy lately. It’s still busy but I’m really going to try to post more frequently.

I’ve accomplished a lot since my last post. There’s been some baking and a lot of knitting going on. I’ve developed quite an addiction to yarn!

Here a couple of my new yarns that I’m seriously in love with. The first 2 are from Three Ewes Twisted in Fiber. They are so pretty that I almost hate to untie them to knit. This is the Wild Thing clourway.

This is the Queen of Hearts colourway from their Alice in Wonderland series.

This last one is from Dyeabolical. It was their January Sock Club yarn.

And just to prove that I AM using all the yarn I’m buying here’s a few pictures of some of my knitting.

This is shawlette I finished back in January. It’s Anne Hanson’s Leafprints Shawlette. It’s made with Wollmeise Twin in the Vamp colourway.

Here is a pair of socks that I’m currently working on. The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy with cashmere. The colourway is Joy in the Morning. The pattern is Crocus from Wendy D. Johnson.

I promise not to stay away so long this time.

Weight Loss Wednesday #5

Okay so it really is Thursday and not Wednesday. I weighed in on Wednesday. I just didn’t get around to blogging about it until today. I gained 1.2 pounds over the last 2 weeks. This included a six-day trip to Louisiana where all we did is eat. And absolutely none of the food was low-cal or healthy but it was all extremely delicious. One of the perks of vacations is that you eat what you want. You can watch your diet when you get back home.

Weight Loss Wednesday #4

This week was a wash for weight loss. I didn’t lose any weight this week but I didn’t gain anything either. It’s time for me to buckle down and really start watching my points more closely. There’s no excuse for not losing weight this week except that I ate more than I should.

To Watch or Not to Watch

It’s that time of the year. The one where you have to decide whether or not to watch Big Brother. You know… that time-wasting guilty pleasure of summer. You know that once you start watching it, you’re sucked in until September. You’re committing to at least 3 hours a week — more if you watch the after hours show on Showtime. I’m pretty sure PopPop and I will watch it though. It just wouldn’t be summer if we didn’t watch it

I’ll use the time to knit. That way I won’t feel so guilty. I’m really into knitting right now. It’s great to be knitting something besides pink baby afghans. Stay tuned for some knitting details.

Weight Loss Wednesday #3

Well it looks like blogging about my weight loss is working! I lost another 0.8 pounds this week. Slow but steady is the way to go. I think this is excellent considering PopPop and I dined at Perry’s Steakhouse Saturday night and it was the Fourth of July weekend.

Weight Loss Wednesday #2

My weight was down 0.6 pounds this week. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it was a total surprise that I lost any weight this week. It was a busy and fun weekend.

PopPop and I went to Frisco to celebrate our granddaughter’s birthday. Celia’s birthday is actually today but her party was Saturday. ‘Total chaos’ is the perfect description of a three-year old’s birthday party. It was so much fun. Happy 3rd birthday, Celia!

There was all kinds of food I should not be eating but I ate it anyway. There was birthday cake and cupcakes. My son smoked an awesome brisket. So we had that with all the fixin’s. We had fried chicken and fried fish at Babe’s. It was delicious There was beer and nachos while we were bowling. Given that I ate all this food you can understand why I’m happy that I lost 0.6 pounds.

I volunteered to bake the cake for the party. The theme for the party was Elmo. I baked the cutest Elmo cake using Wilton’s Elmo face cake pan. I was very pleased with the results:

I also baked cupcakes for the party since the cake is kinda on the small side. These were confetti cupcakes with bright yellow almond frosting, sprinkles, and an Elmo cupcake topper ring:

Weight Loss Wednesday #1

I rejoined Weight Watchers back in April in hopes of losing some weight. I haven’t been as successful as I wanted to be. There are a million reasons I could use for my lackluster performance but the reality is I just like to eat and I don’t want to miss out on any good food. Exercise is not my favorite thing in the world.

In an attempt to jump-start my weight loss, I’m going to start posting my weekly weight change after my weigh-in on Wednesday. There’s nothing like public knowledge to make me accountable. This week wasn’t too bad. I lost 0.8 pounds. That’s not a lot but at least it’s a loss and not a gain. I’ve lost 7 pounds since I started this journey. I still have at least 30 more pounds to lose. It would be great if I could do that before the end of the year.

Changes and Adjustments

My life is full of changes and adjustments right now. PopPop went back to work after being off for 2 years. During those 2 years he really helped out around the house. I rarely went to the grocery store or cooked during the week. He also took on most of the laundry. Oh my have thing changed! PopPop leaves before me in the morning and returns after me in the evening. Preparing dinner in once again my responsibility. So is grocery shopping. I’m kinda rusty on the whole “get home from work and fix dinner” thing. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to plan ahead to cook and what I need to keep in the pantry. I admit I’ve been spoiled for the last 2 years. It’s time to get serious about meal planning after fumbling around for the last month.

My weight has slowly been creeping up over the last couple of years and I decided it’s time to do something about it. I rejoined Weight Watcher a couple of weeks ago. This is another reason I need to get serious about meal planning. The first week I was very diligent about tracking what I ate and I lost 3.8 pounds even though we had a couple of meals out. One of which was a neighbor’s crawfish boil. My only nod to my weight loss plan that night was to drink wine instead of margaritas. I really stayed on track except for those 2 meals. I wasn’t so successful during the second week. I wasn’t keeping track of what I ate and I know I ate way more than I should have. The ultimate result was I gained 0.6 pounds. That sucks! This week it’s back to tracking everything that goes into my mouth. So now we’re back to the serious meal planning.
